Let’s talk about an exciting and often poorly explained topic: starting a blog and making it a success.
Whether it is to position yourself as an "expert" in your field, to find a job or just to share your passion, the blog remains a very effective way to be present, active and seen on the web.
Before starting your blog, are you sure you've found the right topic and want to share? A blog is a big personal investment so you better be passionate.
Start your blog for good reasons, which is to share and exchange, not to receive free products or make money. These are things that can happen, of course, but it's secondary and it will come through persistence, investment of time and a lot of hard work.
Why start a business blog?
Well, there are several unresistable points for your inspiration:
- Generate qualified and well-targeted traffic;
- Convert traffic into your customers;
- Boost your brand awareness and improve the brand image;
- Create engaging branded content and widen your audience.
Thus, your blog can help you to get knowing your audience in more precise way.
Creating a blog is very simple and only requires a few steps:
#Step 1: Have a starting idea and an original concept
If you want to be successful in this area, I strongly advise you to choose a fairly specific subject. Indeed, it is easier to become a must-have blog on Facebook ads than on web marketing in general, or a blog on violets than on flowers in general.
Nothing will prevent you from expanding later, once you have covered a specific topic and / or your visitors expressly ask you for information on a related topic. You have to target, and refine it somewhat. It will also be faster and easier for you to position yourself on search engines on very specific queries than on words like "create a blog" or "flowers".
Feel free to jot down all the ideas for the topic you want to cover on a piece of paper, and feel free to look at what is already being done on this topic. Be specific, otherwise you will not succeed!
Ah, the enthusiasm. You are bursting with ideas, you have so much to say. It is very good. But it must remain consistent. Avoid mixing genres. Either you blog about real estate. Either on travel. Although investing in real estate can help finance your travel. Pick a theme, not a catch-all. Why that ? Because your readers have a purpose, and ignoring it is suicidal.
Blogging is a bit like running a business, you have times of euphoria and times very difficult. To keep the fire going, it is therefore preferable to write on a subject that we are really passionate about, and about which we have a lot to say. This will save you some disappointments. It will also be easier for you to transmit this passion. You will be able to create strong bonds with other people who are also passionate about the subject.
In addition, passion transpires, it shows itself. If you are passionate about the topic you are discussing, then we are more likely to want to read you.
There are 10 main themes where the majority of traffic is found:
- Personal development;
- The family / the couple;
- Personal finances;
- Technology and gadgets;
- Career management;
- The latest news;
- Marketing ideas;
- The company development;
- Creativity (photo, writing, graphics, DIY, beauty, cooking, etc.);
- The productivity and progress.
Think carefully how to dominate in your niche. And be aware that the only way to truly dominate a niche is to be the most believable and open-minded.
#Step 2: Choose your CMS
When you want to start your blog, this is often the big question: where to create it? There are many blogging platforms but I recommend the two best known because they are easy to use and customizable: Blogger and WordPress.org. I will soon offer you a detailed comparison of these two options.
#Step 3: Choose a domain name
Try to find an original name, unique and above all that suits you. This is a name that will follow you for a long time because once you have created a blog, it is not recommended to change it as it may confuse your readers. To personalize the name of your blog, we can start with your first name, your nickname or something that you like very much.
Your domain name, where your blog's internet address, is very important. You have to choose it carefully. It should be easy to recall, simple and relevant to your subject. It must of course also be available for sale.
One of the possible solutions depending on your case is when you are trying to insert keywords inside. Depending on your needs, you can choose. If you go with integrated keywords, you will have a slight advantage in natural referencing on these words. If you prefer to choose a brand name, and you choose it well, you can make an impression. The best, of course, when possible, to mix the two.
